Graduate Student, Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations
Ph.D. Candidate (post exams)
About
I am a Ph.D. Candidate (post exams, 4th year) specializing in the history, religion, and literatures of ancient Israel, with broader interests in areas like Semitic linguistics, comparative myth, sociology/anthropology of religion, Assyriology, and (Greek) classics. On the side, I enjoy dabbling in Freud, postmodern cultural theory, and modern American poetry.
My teaching experience includes serving as an adjunct instructor of religious studies at Missouri State University (2004-2006), where I taught multiple sections of an introduction to Hebrew Bible, as well as a survey of classical mythology. Concurrently, I taught multiple sections of an introduction to the Old Testament at Evangel University. At Harvard, I have served as a Teaching Fellow for several courses, including Concepts of the Hero in Greek Civilization (under Gregory Nagy), The Contested Bible (with Jay Harris), and, currently, an introduction to the Hebrew Bible (with Harvard Extension School, under Shaye Cohen). In the spring of 2010, I will be teaching a Hebrew reading course covering Pss. 51-100.
My dissertation (currently in its beginning stages) is a comparative study of themes of conquest, cataclysm, giants, and heroic ages in ancient Israel, Greece, and Mesopotamia.
Selected recent presentations and publications can be found via the links at the left (full CV available upon request). Thanks for looking at my profile!
